A strong pillar of industry

At the beginning of the 20th century, the success story of plastics began in what is now Brandenburg with the first industrial production of Bakelite.

Modern and sustainable

Today, Brandenburg is one of the most important locations for the European plastics and chemical industry. With 110 companies and 11,600 employees, the sector is one of the strong pillars of industry in Brandenburg.

The industry is modern and works using sustainable methods: green chemistry, biopolymers, lightweight construction and innovative composite materials characterise the sector. Hardly any other industry is so closely intertwined with other sectors of the economy.

Important basic products

As a supplier for many basic products, the plastics and chemistry industry in Brandenburg plays a key role in the development of such industries as the pharmaceutical industry, medical technology, information and communications technology, but also in photonics and vehicle construction.
