An industry with tradition

The multi-grinding machine was invented in Rathenow 200 years ago – setting a milestone for spectacle production. This clearly demonstrates that optical technologies have been at home in Brandenburg for 200 years. Rathenow is still the centre of the optical industry today.

Products with world reputation

Teltow, Stahnsdorf and Kleinmachnow are now home to innovative companies in the fields of laser, measurement, environmental and communication technology.

In total, the industry has around 620 companies with over 5,800 employees. Rathenower Optik - Fielmann is based here, as are HIGHYAG or Newport Spectra-Physics and many smaller and medium-sized companies whose products have long since gained a global reputation.
