Tesla Gigafactory

The US electromobility specialist built its European Gigafactory in Grünheide (Oder-Spree district) in a record 861 days – from the announcement of its investment to the delivery of the first vehicles. The company has now grown to become the largest private industrial employer in the state of Brandenburg. Tesla’s investment has also significantly boosted Brandenburg’s evolution into a new center for modern mobility. It has helped establish a closed-loop value chain for the battery industry in the state. The company worked closely with WFBB’s Business Location Development team during the plant’s construction and further expansion.

Biotech relocation to Brandenburg

Biotechnology company BIOCYC Biotechnologie GmbH & Co. KG officially opened a new laboratory and office building in Potsdam’s Golm district in 2023. The investment has created 14 new jobs. The state of Brandenburg has actively supported the company’s development for many years via WFBB and ILB, Brandenburg’s business promotion bank. Financing for the new building was supported by the Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures (GRW) funding program.

Photovoltaic technology from Brandenburg

In 2019, UK solar company Oxford PV expanded its location in Brandenburg an der Havel to include a production facility for novel solar cells. The expansion created 24 new jobs. Founded in 2010 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, the company brought a new technology for thin-film solar cells to market maturity and established a base in Brandenburg in 2016. Its expansion was supported by the Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures (GRW) funding program, with active assistance from WFBB.
