The economic structureiof the Oder-Spree district with almost 190,000 inhabitants and the district town of Beeskow are shaped by a wide spectrum of different sectors. Important economic sectors include the metal extraction and processing industry, the chemical industry, the automotive sector, as well as energy, agriculture, and forestry. The latter is no coincidence; the Oder-Spree district is the most wooded area in Brandenburg.

The two regional centres of growth Fürstenwalde and Frankfurt (Oder) set the pace for the district. Eisenhüttenstadt is a key location for the metal and paper industries and offers optimal conditions for the establishment of primary industries. Incidentally, the US actor Tom Hanks is an avowed Eisenhüttenstadt fan (Tom Hanks driving a Trabant car across Eisenhüttenstadt).
Fürstenwalde is just a short train ride from Berlin and could therefore continue to gain significance as both an industrial and residential location. It is also home to Goodyear Dunlop Tires Germany and the German headquarters of the property development company, Bonava.
