The district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz is an industrial centre in the south of Brandenburg. The district boasts thirty fully developed industrial parks, which are home to around 360 companies with more than 7,000 jobs.
The towns of Senftenberg, Grossräschen, Lauchhammer and Schwarzheide belong to the Westlausitz regional growth area. Senftenberg is also a location of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).
One of the largest European chemical sites of the BASF Group can be found at the centre of the district in the town of Schwarzheide. Schwarzheide is also a hub for chemical logistics from North Sea ports to Southeast Europe. Other major companies in the district include Vestas Blades Deutschland GmbH, Tenova Takraft GmbH and ALTRAD Plettac Production GmbH.
Attractive industrial areas are offered for instance by BASF Schwarzheide GmbH at the Schwarzheide chemical site, Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Mining-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (LMBV) in the Lusatia industrial parks in the town of Lübbenau/Spreewald, municipality of Kittlitz, “Sonne” in the town of Grossräschen, municipality of Freienhufen, “Marga” in the town of Senftenberg, municipality of Brieske as well as in the Lauchhammer-Süd industrial park and LEAG in the towns of Lübbenau/Spreewald and Vetschau/Spreewald.
The district of Oberspreewald with the Spreewald reserve in the north and the emerging Lusatian Lake District in the south has attractive tourist centres and a high quality of life. The EuroSpeedway Lausitz race track is an internationally renowned racing centre in the district.
