With a value-added rate of 13.6% (2015) the industrial production is a key sector of Brandenburg’s economy.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a major role among the region’s industrial sector, as more than 60% of Brandenburg’s companies have fewer than fifty employees and 94% companies less than 250 employees. SMEs are thus the backbone of the region’s industrial sector, as they not only account for nearly half of its revenue (48.2% in 2016), but also provide approximately 57% of the jobs.
Only 6% of Brandenburg’s manufacturing companies have more than 250 employees (2016). The large businesses, however, provide more than 43% of the jobs in the industrial sector.
