Paper industry and paper processing in the German capital region

Print page

High willingness to invest in Brandenburg

Brandenburg’s paper and paper processing companies have achieved above-average turnover and employment development in recent years. In 2017, the companies in the industry* generated a goods turnover of 1.58 billion euros. The industry employs more than 4,100 people.

The major paper producers Leipa, Hamburger Rieger and Propapier in Schwedt/Oder, Spremberg and Eisenhüttenstadt accounted for approximately 65% of the turnover. All paper producers use only waste paper. Following the increasing demand for packaging materials, companies are expanding their capacities and investing in new large paper machines. Investments in Schwedt/Oder and Spremberg are indicative of an attractive investment climate.

In addition to the major paper producers, the industry is also strongly represented in further processing. More than 40% of companies comprise the production and processing of corrugated board and packaging materials.

This industry is heavily export-oriented. More than 38% of the turnover is generated abroad.

Examples of processors: Pelikan in Falkensee, Biella-Falken in Peitz, rlc packaging group in Rüdersdorf, Schoepe Display in Dahme/Mark, Thimm in Eberswalde, Panther Packaging in Wustermark and Dunapack in Spremberg
